Re: How long do you leave your Christmas decorations up?

That sounds like a fun time for a guy who likes cars! My mother's family was from Arkansas, and years ago, when I was a teenager, Winthrop Rockefeller was governor of that state. He had a fabulous antique car collection that he put on display at Mt Petit Jean State Park. I have never forgotten how b...

Re: HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Well, acvording to the official site, there are still tickets available. They even warned against scalpers who are claiming otherwise and gave an acceptable price range. However, we might have to plan our trip to coincide with the availability of tickets. I think the tour groups are sold out, but my...

Re: How long do you leave your Christmas decorations up?

Local festivals are a lot of fun, and there's something to be said for just spending the day or the afternoon, and sleeping at home.

Re: HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I was in Munich as a student in 1980. Back then, my future husband and I belonged to a choir that toured Germany, Switzerland, and Austria for a couple of weeks. It was a great trip, but a lifetime ago. My son and I are hoping to snag tickets to the passion play at Oberammergau. That's tough, though...

Re: HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Haven't thought that far ahead yet. My son and I are trying to plan a summer vacation together. He goes to Germany most summers (he is fluent in the language, studied abroad there, and has friends overseas). This year he wants me to come wirh him, so we are trying to get that worked out.

Re: What made you mad today?

A $15 minimum wage sounds great, but I worry that it will depress the job market in those places where it is required.

Good luck in finding a job that works for you, Mike!

Re: How long do you leave your Christmas decorations up?

My husband is Lutheran and I am Episcopalian. Both churches recognize the 12-day Christmas season, which ends at Epiphany, Jan 6. Our niece went to college in New Orleans. She told us that Carnival Season kicks off at Epiphany and lasts until Ash Weds. They have the right idea down there. Party all ...

Re: How long do you leave your Christmas decorations up?

Thanks for the feedback. I have read that in Catholic parts of Germany, they leave their Nativity sets out until Feb 2. That is Candlemas on the Catholic calendar, the ritual purification of the Virgin Mary 6 wks after childbirth. The sermons between Christmas and Candlemas are supposed to be about ...
