Re: Whatcha watchin right now?

this technically isn't "right now", but on Sunday to get myself in the proper mood before finishing up the front yard decorating, I watched the history channel's "The Real Story of Halloween" on youtube. great 45 min doc from a few years ago.

Re: working on this year's yard haunt

sounds awesome! yeah, that's how our neighborhood is, just with much less elaborate decor than what you're talking about. Our street is the main circle (appx. 1 full mile all the way around) in the subdivision, and its basically a big Halloween block party, people on their driveways with the firepit...

Re: working on this year's yard haunt

ha, fun! yeah, the sit-in-the-driveway-around-the-fire thing is a big (and fun) tradition around here. the only bad thing is that it eliminates the traditional walking up to the door and ringing the bell that was such a big part of the nervousness of TOTing that I remember as a kid. Now its, "walk u...

Re: working on this year's yard haunt

thanks! Here's a better shot from dusk last night with everything finished and on & working, but light enough to still see what the heck is going on :) This is what will be greeting our annual 200-250 trick r treaters next month, we'll be sitting around the fire pit on the drive way to the left, han...

working on this year's yard haunt

working on our annual front yard decor since yesterday. The fuzzy pic on the top tells me that the phone didn't like the too-dark setting for a photo :) you also can't tell from the still shot the strobe lights or the working animatronic cemetery ghoul on the porch (and the back section of the orang...

Re: Early Halloween Sightings!

a house in the neighborhood had the orange & purple lights and some assorted hanging witches etc. up as of this past Saturday. It was nice to see.
Also, on Saturday night had my first "liquid pumpkin pie" of the fall - pumpkin ale mixed with whipped cream flavored vodka :P

Re: When do you start hankering for Halloween?

1 1/2 isn't too young, just grab a wagon & head down the street! That's what we're doing this year with our little guy (who will turn 2 on 10/30). The wagon will be decorated with web and battery-powered orange & purple LED lights, calling it the "Hallowagon"!

Re: When do you start hankering for Halloween?

woke up this morning to dark cloudy skies, light misty rain, and temps around 60. If that doesn't get me in the Halloween spirit, nothing will! (and, as I'm logged onto this site, I suppose it worked!)

must almost be that time - Spirit Halloween open!

my wife and I went yesterday to our local Spirit Store (already!), which apparently opened in the past week. This year's decor looks AWESOME, a ton of turnover from the past couple of years.

Re: There is something about July...

here in the midwest, the weather is making it easy to get anxious for the fall. Its been an almost non-summer, lots of cool Canadian air constantly (tonight's low temp is supposed to be upper-50's again). I can practically smell the pumpkins.

Re: What seems to be missing from Halloween in America?

I agree that the meaning of it/what you get out of it changes from childhood to adulthood. As a kid, it was all about the magic of taking over the darkened neighborhood with the rest of the army of costumed elementary schoolers, acting weird (in a way we would NEVER dare do any other day of the year...

Re: Early Halloween Sightings!

a lot of you probably already have seen it, but Spirit Halloween is in the middle of their yearly summer "pre-season" clearance sale online (spirithalloween.com). Actually some very good prices on good stuff (I took advantage of a $10 hanging head - normally $20 to $30 - and a really cool zombie-han...

Re: Spirit Halloween

a couple of years ago, while my wife was about 7 months pregnant w/ our son (so we weren't doing very much on the weekends/at night anyway, and every extra dollar was nice) I decided at age 33 to check off an item from the bucket list and work part-time at the local Spirit store during the Halloween...

Re: Scarefest haunted attractions in St. Louis

i can definitely understand the cash issue. We always make sure to find a deal - for the Scarefest trio around here, you can do a 1 time purchase online for all 3 (with speed passes) for a total of $60 per ticket if you wait for the special online deals. We set the cash aside a head of time, like so...
