Anyone else go through a little Halloween hangover?

Post by reevadoress » Fri Nov 30, 2018 8:32 pm

Anyone else besides me go through this a little tad? Seems like Halloween comes and goes faster each year, but I always seem to have a tough time putting it behind me! I think a big reason for it is because my favorite time of year is summer right up until the middle of fall, and so I know that when Halloween is over is when the coldest stretch of the year is about to start. I don't mind a little cold weather around Christmas, but I'm definitely ready for spring and summer by the time January and February rolls around. How about you?

Yeah by the time January 1st rolls around I want to see green grass and flowers.

The fall definitely does not last long enough. Around here it stays summertime hot until mid-Oct. Then this year we had a series of windy rains in Nov. We got pretty color for maybe two weeks.

That said, I love Christmas, too, so I'm happy right now. January, my mother always said, is "the Monday morning of the year". Nothing but minor holidays until Easter. At least, in the South, we get daffodils in Feb.

Oh, well, as Shakespeare says, "If all the year were playing holiday,/to sport would be as tedious as to work"

The day after halloween I can say that I feel so tired. Now, it is time to prepare for Christmas!

I keep Christmas going until Jan 6, Epiphany. By the 7th even I am ready to put it to bed. But at least my way gets me through one week of the year's dreariest month.

-grabby hands- I am going through this right now. I've been working on some of my Halloween decorations to handle my itch. We got a few things on discount last year, but I still got to paint them.

Usually buy the stuff after holiday because it is cheaper and then I got all year to work on Halloween stuff if I end up missing it. Hahaha

Oh, most of my decorations were bought right after the various holidays. It's the best way to collect them.

I'm trying to use these weird mini figurines I got and this paper pumpkin to make a display. Bbbuuuutttt the thing is posing a lot of difficulty.

I am thinking about working on some Halloween costumes though. They can take a long time to set up by hand. Hahaha. I seriously think about Halloween most of the year. We even have Halloween props as our main decor in the home!

Speaking of "Little Halloween," I have a happy tradition (perhaps some of you long-time members remember) of celebrating with a little Halloween fun and a horror movie or two every time the 13th of the month falls on a Friday. for 2019, "Little Halloween" will be on Friday September 13th, and on Friday December 13th. You can call the December one "Creepmass if you like. I do.

We tried keeping Little Halloween alive but we couldn't compare to your dedication.

Looking forward to the next ones.

We have two this year, and one of them is in December. I was thinking of screening "Krampus," and "A Christmas Carol," the Disney version. For Friday Sept 13th, I am going to go with a cook-out during the day time, then a triple feature when the sun goes down. "Ghost Ship," "Route 666" and "The Omen" (Original, not the 2009 remake.)

I follow "Little Halloween" religiously, thanks to your guidance, Pumpkin_Man, I mean Pumpkin_Head. Can't get used to that.

I'll have you know, your dedication to said semi-holiday inspired some of us to create another one. Have you ever heard of Creepmas? It started as a payback at retail America for throwing that December holiday at us earlier every year. Last year, even earlier than October! Tim Burton showed us the way, with "Nightmare Before Christmas". It is possible to blend the two holidays, and keep true to yourself.

Creepmas takes place the first 13 days of December. I celebrate by leaving most of my Halloween decorations up till the 13th, and watching dark X-mas movies, a list which I can supply upon request. I actually started a Creepmas sub on Reddit last year. The sub didn't do half bad, seeing as it's a new thing. I probably should do a post about this. Maybe bring Halloween.com into the 21st century?
