Some of them are pretty impressive. I thought the "projection" effect used by a couple of them was clever. They carved the pumpkin so that it would project an image behind it. I've never seen that done before.

Pumpkin Masters calls those shadow pumpkins. They had a whole book full of templates.

Feel free to download the book. Print out the templates. Practice on a helium balloon.

I carve the lids in shapes that project onto the ceiling. A bat is my favorite.
