Crazy Contact Lenses Safety Tips

In recent years, so called crazy contacts have become a popular accessory when dressing up for Halloween. Existing in many different colors and shapes, these types of contact lenses certainly help to create a scary and dramatic impression. However, there are some safety tips that could be wise to follow when it comes to wearing these contact lenses.

Crazy contact lenses can be worn by anyone, with or without vision impairment. You can buy them directly online or from your local optician, but note that, even without any corrective power, you will need a valid prescription. Moreover, these novelty lenses have recently become a common cause for infections and irritation to the eye. Unlike traditional contacts, crazy contacts are often not handled with care or concern. When using Halloween contacts, it is advisable to follow these directions:

Putting In and Taking Out
When putting in and taking out your contact lenses, a rule of thumb is always to wash your hands. A high level of hygiene is important to lower the risk of bacteria and dirt entering your eyes. If you are using make-up, make sure to insert and take out the contacts before you apply it to or remove it from your face – especially when it comes to eye-liner or eye shadow.

Do Not Share with Friends
Wearing crazy contacts will, as we mentioned above, most certainly create an impressive effect. Don’t be surprised if your friends will want to try the contacts out themselves. This, however, is not recommended, as bacteria may easily travel with the lens from one eye to another. By sharing your contacts with your friends you thus also increase the risk of getting an infected or irritated eye.

Do Not Reuse Crazy Contacts Over and Over Again
When Halloween is over and your crazy contacts have turned out to be a great success, you might think that keeping them for another festive occasion isn’t such a bad idea. The fact is that contact lenses all have expiration dates, including crazy contacts. Rather than keeping and reusing the same pair over a longer period of time, we would recommend buying a new set of lenses as soon as the opportunity arises.

Now that you have read the safety tips of wearing crazy contacts for Halloween or any other spooky occasion, you can safely dress your eye with a large selection of cool colors and shapes. If you have never worn contacts before we suggest you visit your local eye doctor for further instructions. (Some tips coutesy of LensShopper.com)
